Look Taller Today

Wear monochromatic.

-Dress monochromatically. Wearing all one color is a clever way to enhance the body by creating an up and down line. When someone looks at you, the eye is distracted to look at you vertically therefore giving the appearance of being taller.
-Wear flared jeans. This is trick used by short woman everywhere and even curvy women. Flared jeans give the impression of a longer leaner leg. The best pair of flared jeans are those that are fitted throughout the leg and end at the tip of your shoes. Also make sure that they sit on your natural waist and not below so as not to look chopped.
-Another great way to keep the eye trained to look at you in a vertical way is to wear stripes. Not only does it create long lines but also has a slimming effect.
-Did you know that wearing V neck tops can elongate the body also? Whether you go with a subtle V neck top or a plunging neckline, a V neck gives off the impression of a longer more flattering torso.
-Obviously wearing high heels can make you taller but only if you're wearing the right shoe. A nude shoe is the best choice to show off legs that seem to go on forever. Strappy ankle heels or booties will make some short look choppy regardless of the color.
-Bringing the focus upward can make you look taller so instead of wearing a choker or short necklace. Go instead with longer necklaces and layer them to give your neck a longer look. Top off with a hat to complete the look.
-Color blocking is a hot trend that all short women should be wearing. Not only will it make you look taller it can also make you look thinner.
-Wear clothes that actually fit you. This may be hard for short women because of the inability to find the proper length in clothes but it's worth the extra money to have it tailored to fit. An outfit that doesn’t fit correctly will not only swallow you but make you look smaller and even child like.
-Ditch the big heavy handbags. Big handbags look overwhelming on short women so go with a small clutch or handbag instead. Not only will it make you appear taller but you back will thank you also.

Wonderful Waves. Soooo many women wore this style. It is gorgeously glamorous. For a change of pace, Jessica Chastain's waves were smoothed back on the sides. The real standout to me for this Red Carpet staple was Kelly Osborne's vivid color. Look to Pravana's new ChromaSilk Pastels in Luscious Lavender to easily re-create the shade. A great dry set is an essential start for this classic look. Spray each section with a heat protecting spray before curling on a 1 1/4" ceramic iron. Pin each curl and allow to cool before and brush with a soft bristle brush, directing all the hair to one side. My favorite look of the evening was Julianne Moore's ravishing-red French Twist. Tons of teasing, smoothing and pinning with a final misting of Aquage Beyond Shine will be in order. At some point in
the show, Tina Fey's talented stylist crafted her coif into a similar style. Nights like this when Hollywood starlets walk the red carpet in elegance are super exciting. You just can't top classic style.

how to Get Lipstick To last Longer

Lipstick is popular this spring and I'm partial to hot pinks as seen here on Gwen Stefani.
One problem with lipsticks is the lack of staying power. To keep yours from melting away within the hour, follow these tips:
  • You must start with a smooth surface. Dry, scaly lips do not a nice mouth make. Apply a liberal glob of petroleum jelly to lips and exfoliate with a toothbrush.
  • Fill in lips with a matching liner and your color will last much longer.
  • Try a lip stain instead of a creamy lipstick. A good stain will really live up to its names and stay on for many hours. Because stains can be drying, top with a gloss and keep it on hand for touch ups. Unlike stains, gloss wears off fast.

30 Basic Beauty Tips You May Not Know But Should

Eye Cream Is Great For Cuticles
Instead of spending money on cuticle cream, you can use extra-moisturizing and hydrating eye cream to cure dry cuticles.

Stop Your Hair Colour From Fading
If you've just had your hair dyed, the last thing you want is for the colour to fade. One surefire way to prevent such a mishap from happening? Use a deep-conditioning treatment once a month. This will help lock in colour and has the added benefit of staving off dry and damaged locks.

Avoid Overly Rosy Cheeks
Giving yourself a natural glow avec blush is an in look for spring. But you'll want to avoid brushing on too much (lest you look like a clown). So always start your blush line two finger widths away from your nose and only apply it on the apples of your cheeks. This will ensure you create a natural glow without going overboard.

Give Curls Bounce
Never brush curls out with a brush. Instead, loosen them with your fingers. This will give curls added lift without flattening them down.

Add Oomph To Cheekbones
To make your cheekbones appear higher and to give them more structure, apply bronzer directly under the cheekbone. You can also add highlighter to the cheekbone itself (under a thin layer of blush).

Give Hair Lift
Before you start blow drying your hair, add a volumizing spray to your roots. This will give your locks some added lift.

   Create Fuller Lips
If you're sick of having thin, pursed puckers, extend your lip line using a neutral-toned lip liner. Then apply lipstick over top. Be careful though -- don't extend your lip line too much.

Nix Flaky Mascara
One of the main reasons mascara will flake onto your face after you apply it is because it's old. Opt for a new container and always remember to keep your mascara tube tightly sealed.

Dry Out Pimples
Believe it or not, dabbing toothpaste onto a pimple is a quick and easy way to dry it out.

Don't Believe Beauty Labels
Some beauty labels actually display false information, so don't believe everything you read. If a product promises instant results or all-day protection, it may be too good to be true.

Banish Oil
The fastest way to clear your skin of any oily breakout, especially in the summer, is to use blotting papers. They'll clean up the excess oil on your epidermis and will prevent breakouts.

Use Oil On Your Skin.. Even If It's Already Oily
This probably sounds crazy, but using an oil-based product to remove makeup or excess dirt from your skin can actually improve your epidermis' condition. Why? Over-cleaning stimulates the sebum glands, which causes skin to over-produce oil. Using oil-based products will have the opposite effect.

You Can Use Exfoliator Daily
Exfoliation is an important and easy way to buff away the dead skin cells that cover up your skin's natural glow. Use a light exfoliator, like the Daily Microfoliant from Dermalogica, to freshen your face daily.

If You Have Greasy Hair...
Avoid applying conditioner directly to your hair's roots -- just apply the heavy moisturizing cream to your locks' ends.

Clean Your Makeup Tools
Whether you use a razor, a Q-tip or a powder brush, make sure to clean your beauty tools. After even a couple uses, they become breeding grounds for bacteria, which can cause breakouts, eczema and many other skin conditions.

Remove Nail Polish Without Remover
If you run out of nail polish remover, you can remove cracked or chipped nail polish by applying a clear top coat to the nail and removing it promptly with a cotton ball.

Change It Up
Our skin craves different things depending on the time of year. So change up your beauty routine based on the seasons. In the winter, add more moisturizing creams to your daily beauty list. In summer, ensure you're using lots of SPF.

Apply Bronzer Evenly
Before applying bronzer or self-tanning lotion, mix a drop or two of the solution with moisture cream. Blend using your finger or a Q-tip then apply to skin as you would regular moisturizer. This will ensure the cream blends in -- and covers skin -- evenly.

Hide Split Ends
To make split ends less noticeable, apply a heavy hair repair cream to lock in moisture before and after using a flat iron or a blow-dryer.

Lock It In
When using cream-based beauty products -- like lipstick or foundation -- apply a dry face powder on top to seal in your look. This also works for blush (apply a cream blush to cheeks, then top with a dry blush).

Find Your Shade
When choosing a foundation, test a product on the skin near your jawline. And be sure to do it in natural light. This will ensure the foundation tone you choose for your face isn't too different from the natural shade of your neck.

Stop Taking Supplements
It's true the healthier you are, the healthier your skin and hair will be. But popping supplements without discussing them with your doctor can do more harm than good. Why? Because mixing certain vitamins and minerals can have the opposite effect of what you're hoping. Talk to your doc before popping any pills.

Using Eyeshadow Primer
Primer is a great tool that will help you lock your makeup look in place. But adding too much of it on areas of your face where you won't actually apply colour will actually detract from the look you're going for (mostly because primers are brighter in tone than most makeup shades).

Apply Mascara To Fake Lashes
This will help fake lashes blend in a bit more seamlessly with your natural ones.

Clarify Your Hair
In order to remove product build-up from locks, use a clarifying shampoo once a week. This will also help prevent dandruff and other annoying hair/scalp conditions.

Cut Back On Pedicures
Save money on your beauty routine by taking care of your feet on a daily basis. Simply scrub your foot with a pumice stone each morning in the shower. Once you step out and dry off, apply a moisture cream to your feet. This will increase the amount of time you can go without a pedicure and will keep your toes healthy and fungus-free.

Replace Old Products Regularly
The effectiveness of products -- not to mention the amount of bacteria they breed -- wares after only a few months. Ditch old items and replace them with new ones.

Treat Ingrown Hairs
Apply a product containing azulene or witch hazel to help reduce the swelling and redness that's associated with ingrown hairs. From there, coax the ingrown hair from its location with a pair of tweezers (don't pull it out, though -- this will only make the ingrown hair regrow in in the same way later).

Nix Post-Shaving Redness
Shave your face, legs or underarms in the shower after standing under warm water for a few minutes. This will help open up hair follicles and will soften hairs so they're less coarse to shave.

Soften Skin
Immediately after stepping out of a shower, pool or lake/ocean, apply some sort of cream to skin. Water washes away the skin's natural oils and applying moisture cream will prevent skin chapping.

9 Easy-Breezy Tips for Blow-Drying Your Hair

black-woman-blow-dryer-hair

When blow-drying hair there are basic steps that should be considered before and after. Having fallen victim to hair loss and damage due to bad blow-drying and not wanting the same to happen to you, here are a few tips to guide you in blow drying your hair.
Tip 1: Before you even begin to blow dry, you have to untangle the hair. When hair is wet it is easier to untangle. Use a wide toothed comb like the one in the image below and comb out your hair moving from the tips to the base of your head. Combing the hair straight from the scalp would lead to clumping which will eventually form tangles and break your hair. A useful tip in doing this is to divide your hair into sections and use this as a grid for blow drying the hair.
Tip 2: Do not rub your wet hair dry or semi-dry with a towel. The friction created by doing this removes nutrients that your hair definitely needs to be healthy and sustained. Instead of rubbing, blot out the water with a towel while pressing slightly to the scalp. This way you take out a bulk of the water without draining the hair of its nutrients.
Tip 3: Metal brushes are the last thing you want to use on wet hair while blow-drying. The metal heats up  fast, adding excess heat to the hair which promotes hair breakage. Instead of this use a round brush with nylon or boar bristles; they don’t conduct heat as easily but still get the job done.
Tip 4: It is paramount that you treat your hair after you wash and before you blow dry. To do this you can use a lightweight barrier like a leave-in conditioner, anti-frizz serum or heat activated styling lotion to protect the hair cuticle. This also boosts shine after blow drying.

Tip 5: If you have and want to maintain curly hair, avoid blow-drying your hairline with high heat; this straightens it out and even more so every time your blow dry. For the hairline you should reduce the heat to low heat or low air temperature and gently use a brush to brush it out. This would still maintain the curl and get your hair dry.
Tip 6: It would seem easier to point the drier at one part of your hair and leave it there for a faster dry but in reality it isn’t.  You have to keep the drier in motion around your head at all times. Leaving it at one location applies too much heat at once to the hair leaving it dehydrated and difficult to work with.
Tip 7: In this case the phrase “the closer, the better” doesn’t apply. Keep the drier at least 4 – 6 inches away from the scalp. Logically it seems the closer you move to the scalp the quicker it will dry, but this only damages the hair.
In summary, the closer you dry to the hair, the faster the hair dehydrates and damages.
Tip 8: Blow drying hair in all directions will not help your hair. Instead blow dry your hair in a downward motion; this movement helps bend the cuticle flat, look smoother and give off a shiny & neat appearance.
Tip 9: Give your hair a blast of cool air after applying heat from the blow-dry. The heat from the drier opens the holes on your scalp that hold the cuticles in place; this leads to strands of hair falling outh leads to strands of hair easily pulling out. Using cold air closes up these holes back up securing them once again to the scalp.
As much as a trip to the salon leaves you feeling pampered, there are parts of hair treatment that we should know and practice. Got any tips on blow drying hair? Don’t forget to share them.

Makeup Tips for Dark Skinned Women

The makeup industry may be neglecting dark beauties for the most part but let’s make the most of it! Learn how to play up what Mother Nature gave you with some rocking make up techniques and styles!

Applying makeup for most women is like drawing on a slightly curved piece of paper. For dark skinned women, however, makeup can pose quite a challenge. Although it may seem that some makeup tricks are basically lost on you, don’t give up – you just need to learn what works for you. Every girl should be able to use makeup as her favorite beauty ally.
Dark skinned women usually have plump lips, nicely toned skin and piercing eyes so there’s a million ways to go to flaunt it all. Besides, makeup is playing, it’s self-expression, it’s fun - use intense colors, make bold choices, make it your own in every way!

Foundation

Because, for dark skinned women, getting an even skin tone is an absolute imperative, buying an adequate foundation may be the most important thing. Find the one that looks natural, even if it means mixing a few different foundations. Makeup artists recommend using a shade ever so slightly lighter than your own skin tone.
Try your best to apply it evenly. You may want to use a brush or a cosmetic sponge, for extra control, although many girls find it easiest to use their fingers to get it everywhere evenly and blend it out nicely. As the name itself says it’s simply – foundation – it should be very light and not feel like you have a ton of it on your face.

Powder

Dark skinned girls usually have a problem with oily skin. Yes, it’s a huge bummer, but – there are a lot of products that can solve, or, at least, lessen this problem! When in need of a quick fix, try using some good old powder. It will give your skin an instant, fresh look. Be sure to pick a translucent powder without any yellowish, or any other similar remnants. Take time to choose, in some cases a quality powder can even replace foundation.
Celeb Buzz on Powder: You know what brand of powder Nicki Minaj likes the most? Well, it’s M.A.C. Select Sheer Pressed Powder in NC40! And also, Nicki’s no stranger to oily skin problems, but you wouldn’t be able to tell would you?

Blush

It might seem exaggerated but dark skinned women can really benefit from using blush. Since in fair skinned women blush is so frequent, it usually seems kind of casual. When a dark skinned woman uses blush it automatically reads as elegant and stylish. Colors that work best are darker shades of red and orange.
The way you apply your blush determents what’s accentuated on your face. Example: if you have high cheek bones put blush right on top of them, if you have fluffy cheeks and a rounder face shape suck in your cheeks and apply blush right in between your cheek line and your jaw line.
Celeb Buzz on Blush: Hot Latina J Lo likes using M.A.C. Powder Blush in Tenderling. To make it look like this girl does smile to find the apples of your cheeks and apply your blush to them, then, blend it softly up to the hairline for a natural flush.

Lips

Although contrasting colors can be fun, using an extra light color of lipstick on your lips is a total no – no for dark skinned women. You will not look chic, more likely, you will look sick. Try to minimize the contrast by choosing colors like deep purple, wine, brown and, of course, the classic – red. No matter the color, transparent lip gloss will intensify the look and add sensibility to your lips.
Celeb Buzz on Lipstick: Until just recently Rihanna stirred up the scene with her fiery red hair and often – a nice red lipstick shade to match. Rihanna has an olive skin tone so she can pull it off like no one can! If you want to knowwhat her favorite brand is, its – yeah you guessed it – CoverGirl!

Eyes

Flaunt your eyes! If, in other cases, contrast was seen as slightly risky, but this is where it starts to get interesting. Your dark skin is actually a playground for different eye shadows. While on fair skin bold mixes can seem like too much, you have the luxury to experiment with deep colors.
You can easily pull off the bronze look with some shimmering eye shadow and colors like pumpkin, gold, or pink that will look great against your complexion. Make sure to use shiny eyeliner, maybe silver, which will look great and accentuate your lovely eyes. Also, black eye shadow and the smoky eyes look will look absolutely enticing on dark skin and eyes!
Celeb Buzz on Eye Shadow: Speaking off smoky eyes, Armenian beauty Kim K sure knows how to rock this look doesn’t she? There are lots of YouTube tutorials showing you how you can pull it off too, don’t be afraid to experiment!

The All-Natural Eye Lift

A touch of liner defines eyes and wakes up your entire face. But as lids lose elasticity and get crepey, it's almost impossible to apply evenly. These tricks from celebrity makeup artist Mally Roncal, founder of Mally Beauty, help: 1. Using your finger, blend an eye shadow base, such as Tarte Clean Slate 360 Creaseless Smoothing Eye Primer ($19; ulta.com), all over lids. It absorbs oils and fills wrinkles, creating a smoother surface for your pencil to skim over. Beauty 10 New Natural Skin Fixers Is "Raw" Beauty Right For You? 4 Ways To Rescue Your Hair Makeup How-To Triple your fat loss - and keep your sexy curves! Find out how today. 2. Line your top lash line using a waterproof pencil with a gel-like consistency, such as Maybelline New York Eye Studio Master Drama Cream Pencil in Bold Brown ($8; drugstores). The formula glides easily but dries quickly, so it won't feather. Pull your lid taut toward your temple and apply the liner inward from the outer corner, wiggling the tip into your lash line as you go (when you release the lid, there won't be any gaps where the color jumped). 3. Using a chubby eye pencil in a pale, shimmery hue, draw a line directly above the dark-brown liner (with this technique, you can skip shadow). This camouflages uneven texture or messy liner edges, and the shimmer reflects light to brighten areas that may be cast in shadow by heavy lids. Try E.L.F. Studio Waterproof Eyeliner Crayon in Champagne ($3; eyeslipsface.com
